September 21, 2020 10:00am-11:30am Operator Tour! Successful Rural Landfill Operation Including Composting (no fee)
Description:
A 1.5 hr webinar by long-time landfill operator and solid waste expert Paul Berry that gives a step-by-step tour of what a small rural Alaska landfill facility can look like and how he developed each program component at the Gustavus Disposal and Recycling Center Operations include composting, recycling, used oil disposal, backhaul, baling, materials resale, inventorying, fee charging, and recordkeeping. Gustavus didn’t get there overnight, but persistence and steady efforts paid off here and many or all components can work in your community too.

October 6-8, 2020 Water & Soil Sampling Training (no fee)
Description:
In this virtual training, you will learn how to take your own water and soil samples to send for laboratory contaminant testing, how to test on-site for surface water fecal coliform, and how to sample and monitor for the basic water quality parameters using a YSI probe and turbidity meter. One-on-one follow-up will be provided post-training to each attendee to answer questions, troubleshoot testing, and help with writing QAPP’s and more

November 17-19, 2020, Backhaul Training (no fee)
Description:
This virtual backhaul training will cover collection, storage, inventory, supplies, packing, working with vendors and transporters, shipping, labeling, paperwork.The training will run from 9:00-2:30 with a break for lunch on Nov 17-19 and there will be a required intro session on November 16th from 1:30-2:30.

ATCEM week (December 2020) Community Waste Education Training (no fee)
Description:
Do you have a workplan that includes school and community outreach goals? This training will focus on teaching you the language teachers follow when creating curriculum for their students. You will learn fun and engaging ways to get your important environmental and solid waste messages out to youth and community members. You will leave this training with a community presentation or a lesson plan specific to your program goals and needs.

December 8-9, 2020 Business of Trash Training (no fee)
Description:
Having trouble convincing your community to pay fees? Finding that your solid waste program starts and stops or doesn't seem to improve? This training looks at your solid waste management program as a utility operation. We use self-assessment exercises and discussions to explore the 9 management areas that contribute to effective and sustainable utility management. You will learn your own program's weaknesses and strengths and leave with an identified approach to improving your program. This training includes developing a solid waste management budget and a community outreach strategy.

January 7-8, 2021 Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan Refresher (no fee)
Description:
Work with our staff in virtual breakout groups or one-on-one to complete your Solid Waste Management plan.
Delivery Method and Technology Requirements: Internet required. This will be an online Zoom-like training with breakout rooms to work with our staff in small groups of participants with similar plan status.
February 23-26, 2021 Backhaul Training no fee)
Description:
Comprehensive backhaul training which includes OSHA 10 hr safety, DOT HMR regulations, inventory, storage, packing, shipping, labeling, and shipping paperwork.
